Q Sports Free Standing Boxing Punch Bag Review

The Q Sports Free Standing Punch Bag is heavy duty and perfect for boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai and other hard hitting sports. The bag is available in two colours, namely Black and Gold and is available in two heights, 5ft and 6ft.

The bag is designed specifically for heavy training. The large base allows for a huge amount of weight to be added by sand but, more importantly, there are suction cups on the base which grip certain kinds of flooring (laminate, tiles, etc) and reduces bag movement and sway.

Specification

Free Standing

The Q Sports punch bag is free standing. This means that there is no need to install a wall bracket or ceiling hook as is the case with traditional swinging punch bags. The main advantages of this are:

1. Convenience
2. You don't end up destroying your house trying to install it
3. You can move the punch bag to wherever there's a space. And store it out of the way for later.

Sand is always recommended as a filler, but water works too. Sand is of course heavier and gives better stability. Any type of dry sand will work perfectly.

Measurements

As mentioned earlier, the bag comes in two sizes: 5ft and 6ft. Its diameter is 32cm (12.6in) and circumference is 100.5cm (39.6in). The diameter is on the higher side for free standing bags. The higher diameter contributes somewhat towards the bag's stability.

Surface Coating

The bag is coated in PU (synthetic) leather. Most (if not all) modern punch bags have this coating as it's durable and easily washable.

Padding

The bag is padded with high density foam. Having compact foam of this nature makes punching easier on the hands and lowers the chance of injury.

Stitching

As you can see in the below image, the top is stitched tightly to the sides:

Base

The large base is primarily for stability. Once filled with sand, the base becomes very heavy and reduces base movement almost entirely. In addition, the 12 suction cups underneath the base create a vacuum with the floor which makes the base almost stationary. As a result, you will be able to focus entirely on your training, power and technique.

Note: The suction cups only work on suitable flooring such as laminate, smooth tiles and marble. Surfaces such as carpet and concrete are of course unsuitable.

Delivery

As with most free standing punch bags, it's delivered in 2 boxes which can arrive on different days, so not to worry if you end up with a part delivery.

Assembly

Assembly is easy. There's a few bolts (included) to attach, but other than that, not much. It's a 5 or 10 minute job.
