The RDX Maya Hide Leather Boxing Gloves are a pair of high quality boxing gloves designed for sports like boxing and Muay Thai. We will look at their specification, discuss their durability and make some points about their style.
The gloves in question are made by the British based sports equipment manufacturer RDX. Since their formation in 1999 they have specialised in the supply of martial arts equipment. They have a track record of producing high quality gear.
We start the RDX Boxing Gloves review by listing and discussing their technical information.
RDX Exclusive Max-Shock Foam Technology
These boxing gloves use exclusive Max-Shock Foam Technology in the palm area which has been specially designed by RDX. This has three advantages: Firstly it makes the gloves more comfortable to wear. Secondly it protects your hands more. Thirdly it reduces the amount of sweat produced because your hands are not overheating as they are able to breathe through the material more easily.
Colours and Sizes. The RDX Maya Hide Leather Boxing Gloves are available in five colour schemes, namely red, blue, green, pink and gold. They come in five weights, namely 8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 14oz, 16oz. Most people tend to go with either the 10oz or the 12oz.
Exterior. The exterior of the gloves are made out of Maya hide leather, a relatively smooth, strong and durable material.
Interior. The interior of the gloves is padded with three layers of gel padding which use Shell-Shock gel technology. Note that Shell-Shock gel is essentially a material which disperses force. In particular, it severely weakens high intensity impacts meaning your fingers and knuckles are well protected. This also allows you to hit harder without the fear of injuring yourself or your opponent.
Wrist Strap. Each glove comes with a supportive wrist strap. It is again made out of Maya hide leather and is secured through the use of Velcro.
The RDX Maya hide boxing gloves are suitable for regular use over extended periods of time. The overall structure of each glove remains sturdy even after taking a beating. The material is pretty resilient in the sense that it doesn't degrade or flake if looked after properly.
Maintaining these gloves is done in the same way as other brands. They should be cleaned frequently for hygiene reasons. Most people wash their boxing gloves using a damp towel and then dry them in a well ventilated area.
As mentioned above the gloves come in red, blue, green, pink and gold. It's entirely a matter of personal preference which one you choose. I think the red colour scheme looks the best with the blue a close second.
As far as the design goes, I'm personally a big fan. The use of colour where the back of the hand goes looks very professional. I particularly like how the main colour is used on the edge of the wrist strap and below the palm area.
Overall I would recommend these RDX boxing gloves. They are suitable for both beginners and advanced boxers. The gloves protect your hands well, they are of good quality and they look smart. The use of RDX exclusive Max-Shock Foam Technology on the palm is of particular interest. Together with the small holes it will reduce sweat considerably which in a sport like boxing is very useful.
